Happy FRIDAY THE 13TH! Stephen King's "THE MIST in 3-D Sound"! from 1993

Hi folks Jason here to say HAPPY FRIDAY THE 13TH! I can't wait to see the new FRIDAY THE 13TH remake coming out tomorrow with my friends! As my good bro Dave presently living in Michigan puts it, it kind of a mishmash of FRIDAY THE 13TH parts 1 -3. This makes it more fun, as it's not just a straight remake just as the HALLOWEEN remake had a different twist to it as well.
Now, yes, I just keep lagging a little longer than I mean to between posts. With all of the emails/comments and feedback, I know people want MORE. I'll give it to ya! Here we have a special treat from our ole pal Stephen King: THE MIST in 3-D Sound from 1993! My Dad bought this Simon & Schuster Audio CD edition back when it came out that year. I've been an avid Stephen King reader since I was a young kid, along with my older brother Mark and my Dad we love it all! So having read THE MIST when I was a kid, then listening to this SUPERB, full production audio play edition, it's been a huge thrill for the imagination long before the movie came to be. It really is in 3-D sound, fully loaded with masterful sound effects & superb acting, recorded in the "Kunstkopf Binaural Sound" technology with a "Neumann Fritz II"! Here is an editorial review excerpt from this 1993 edition:
"Product Description: A mysterious mist--alive with strange movements and unearthly sounds--creeps slowly into a small town, trapping the inhabitants from the rest of the world, in a chilling, full-cast dramatization of King's horrific story of fear and the unknown.
From the Publisher: Sound so visual you're literally engulfed by its bonechilling terror! Stephen King's sinister imagination and the miracle of 3-D sound transport you to a sleepy all-American town. It's a hot, lazy day, perfect for a cookout, until you see those strange dark clouds. Suddenly a violent storm sweeps across the lake and ends as abruptly and unexpectedly as it had begun. Then comes the mist...creeping slowly, inexorably into town, where it settles and waits, trapping you in the supermarket with dozens of others, cut off from your families and the world. The mist is alive, seething with unearthly sounds and movements. What unleashed this terror? Was it the Arrowhead Project---the top secret government operation that everyone has noticed but no one quite understands? And what happens when the provisions have run out and you're forced to make your escape, edging blindly through the dim light? The Mist has you in it grip, and this masterpiece of 3-D sound engineering surrounds you with horror so real that you'll be grabbing your own arm for reassurance. To one side---and whipping around your chair, a slither of tentacles. Swooping down upon you, a rush grotesque, prehistoric wings. In the impenetrable mist, hearing is seeing---and believing. And what you're about to hear, you'll never forget. --This text refers to the Audio Cassette edition."
Get ready for a creepy dive into horrorland, at home or on a road trip in your car!

Jason,

Thanks for the Mist. I've wanted to listen to this for years, but never was able to track it down. Thanks!

Since Alex mentioned the F13 remake/reboot. I'm not excited about this I'm very against the remake of these classic movies especially by Platinum Dunes. The TCM remake was terrible..I can't imagine this F13 will be any better and next up they have Nightmare on Elm St... it makes me sad.

Dear Fiji Mermaid,
I would have to agree with you to some degree, where re-makes are concerned. It would be terrible if they ever tried to re-create the talents of "Vincent Price" or Boris Karloff." There truly is no presence greater than those of the true masters of the macabre. But when it comes to slasher films, we should leave a little room for artistic liberty, shouldn't we?
I went to see "My Bloody Valentine 3-D" and loved it! It was very close to the original story, with a fresh splatter here and there to keep the cobwebs out. But all in all, it was a real thrill!

Let's face it, even if we don't like what they do with re-makes, we still have our old films to fall back on. So what the heck, I say we give them a chance!

I'll be looking forward to hearing a film review from both of you now! :)

All the best!

Alex

Oh and Jason?
Most of your linked sites have traveled into the great beyond.
Just thought that I'd mention it.

Anyway, "Happy Bloody Valentines Day", friend!

Well, I haven't gone to see the movie yet, but I'm thinking that "Fiji Mermaid" guessed this one right.
I've heard all kinds of bad reviews. Hopefully, you folks will have something positive to share? or at least an honest opinion.

Let me know! :)

Alex, Yeah sorry to say but I think I pegged this one. I hated the TCM and TCM prequel Platinum Dunes put out... they were awful. So to me there was no way this Friday the 13th remake could be good. I really have not interest in the film and probably will never see it. I certainly won't pay to see it because that's voting in a way to tell this company to keep churning this stuff out. What's wrong with doing a new sequel or something?? Why the remake.

Well, apparently this wasn't even a proper re-make so to speak. it takes place today, and was treated more like a sequel with a poor soundtrack (which as we all know, is very important in dramatic films!).
I'm a fan of these films, so it's a real downer... I even paid $60.00 for both Double Sided film posters! On the bright side, the poster art was terrific :)

I saw "My Bloody Valentine 3-D" in theatre, and loved every eye popping moment! It's too bad that they couldn't have done the same for poor old Jason!

Well, we still have more horror fun in 3-D coming soon! Apparently, they're filming a re-make of Piranha! The original Corman flick wasn't great, but at least it was un, in a weird sort of way :)

Talk soon!

Hi there. I love this presentation. It actually first came out in 1984 (I think) as I had the cassette version and wore it out right before the CD was released. It's still as awesome sounding today as it was when it first came out. I think I enjoy this version more than the movie actually.

@JR Todd,
It's like dear old Vincent Price used to always say: "Radio is the true theatre."
Being a lover of old time radio, I couldn't agree with you more. Few things could be half as creative as our own imaginations teased into terror!
