"Meridian" 1991 film score from master composer Pino Donaggio!

Hi everyone. Here is the music score for the Full Moon horror-fantasy film "Meridian" from 1991 by Pino Donaggio! That's the year I graduated from high school so I remember renting the flick that year or the next. Of course being a film from Full Moon, the superhot women getting nude is more amazing than the film itself. Yet, composer Pino Donaggio's beautiful film score is the other superb aspect. Of course, he is the master of themes & melodies and has many chart toping pop hits & imaginative & memorable film scores.

He's a superb singer violinist, and composer. I love his use of an orchestra, keyboards and eeire female harmonies are other reasons his scores stand out from other composers. "The Howling", "Tourist Trap" (2 of my favorite films), "Piranha", & a bunch of Brian DePalma film scores, etc. are all in his resume.

The tracks that I've highlighted in green in the track list are my favorite tracks as they are more structured melodic themes of different styles rather than the atomospheric tracks for the film. Happy FRIDAY THE 13TH! Stephen King's "THE MIST in 3-D Sound"! from 1993

Hi folks Jason here to say HAPPY FRIDAY THE 13TH! I can't wait to see the new FRIDAY THE 13TH remake coming out tomorrow with my friends! As my good bro Dave presently living in Michigan puts it, it kind of a mishmash of FRIDAY THE 13TH parts 1 -3. This makes it more fun, as it's not just a straight remake just as the HALLOWEEN remake had a different twist to it as well.

Now, yes, I just keep lagging a little longer than I mean to between posts. With all of the emails/comments and feedback, I know people want MORE. I'll give it to ya! Here we have a special treat from our ole pal Stephen King: THE MIST in 3-D Sound from 1993! My Dad bought this Simon & Schuster Audio CD edition back when it came out that year. I've been an avid Stephen King reader since I was a young kid, along with my older brother Mark and my Dad we love it all! So having read THE MIST when I was a kid, then listening to this SUPERB, full production audio play edition, it's been a huge thrill for the imagination long before the movie came to be. It really is in 3-D sound, fully loaded with masterful sound effects & superb acting, recorded in the "Kunstkopf Binaural Sound" technology with a "Neumann Fritz II"! Hi all, Jason here! I know that I have said in the last few posts that there would be no more lulls in my posting on "Nightchillers Rare Music", but to put it bluntly: I went on a vacation in late Summer, and ever since then I have been practicing drums & guitar at home inbetween the spaces of running a business 9-5 Monday thru Friday. I also re-installed 32-bit & 64-bit OS's onto this, my home system. I have regreted letting the blog suffer but it IS important for me to have some steady life in the blog and I promise I'll inject it back in!

Here is the inspirational, all instrumental rock album from guitar virtuoso Alan Lennon entitled "Heaven's Call" from 2003. This is his 1st sort of E.P. length album that has been highly praised all over the world. It is very rare and has been unavailable to find for a few years now. I think I first heard it in 2006 and it is one of my favorite instrumental guitar records with its' melody-before-technique compositon. Young Alan from Ireland, has played with some of the biggest shredders in the world and he has astounding skill on the guitar. These songs are soo original with such a giant stature of beauty that your granpa, dog & girlfriend will all be really impressed! As Lennon himself states, "With my music I always try to put the songs before the technique. If a song does not need any fast technical playing, I won't put any in. What good is music if it is not nice to listen to? I think it is important that your music is accessible to people who don't play guitar." TUESDAY KNIGHT's (star of "A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master") self-titled solo album from 1987!

Hi folks! Even though this new post is long overdue, I am closing the gap on the lag time between my new posts. Plus, I want you to hopefully savor each one. Here I have TUESDAY KNIGHT's (star of "A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master") self-titled solo pop-rock album from 1987! As you may recall, Tuesday who starred as "Kristen", also had a song on the movie soundtrack: "Nightmare", which played over the opening of the film. It's a cool song. Kristen was the star character from "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors", and Tuesday took over the role for part 4. Of course being in Junior High at the time, myself and many Amercan boys thought of the "Kristen" character as a hot older teenager. Tueaday gives the character that down to earth & genuine quality of teenage girl who's intelligent and not just some dumb dumb you don't care about. The character "Alice" takes over as the star later in the film.

Present day, and my buddy Phelpster over at The Manchester Morgue told me about a year ago that Tuesday Knight had a solo record. So, I found the self-titled 1987 album on cassette in brand new condition. I finally just got around to recording it and it came out nice. Tuesday has 10 pop-rock tunes here that are unmistakingly '80s sounding in composition, instrumentation & vocal delivery, and excellent production. I've barely listened to it yet but I will more. After studying about Tuesday I have found that she is as genuine as her character from NOES 4. She seems really cool & sweet, and she still looks stunning. And of course, she's a '70s / '80s kid like me so that rules! Her late father Baker Knight, was a talented musician and songwriter with hits as far back as the 1950's. She has been in tv & film since her debut, and performs with a David Bowie tribute band these days called "Space Oddity".

She has a very successful clothing company called "Tuesday's Hip Vintage", and is friends with and has made fashion pieces for Britney Spears, Madonna, etc..

I thought she seemed so cool that I've got her & "Space Oddity" on my Myspace friends list.

I just watched NOES 4 two nights ago as it had been awhile since I'd watched it. It's great fun and I saw it alot as a youth. One cool thing I'll mention is that Kincaid's radical dog that pisses fire in the movie is named Jason!

Happy FRIDAY The 13TH everyone! Here I have a quickie special trick n' treat for you on this fine evening: "Haunted Halloween: Spooky Sounds To Chill Your Bones" from 1991 from Dove Audio! I love this Halloween sound effects album! It has all of the classic synth effects and creepy sounds you'd expect. I just found this and thought I'd lost it years ago! I bought this (it's a cassette inside of a cardboard sleeve) back when it came out in 1991. I may have bought it in 1992, yet the point is that probably in 1992 is when my good bro and I Steve Daillak charged up to Chico, CA for Halloween! I think it was our first Halloween trip to Chico and before he was going to school there. We charged up in his ole speedy Toyota Celica and were a couple of wreckless youths with some unmentionable substances in the car with us. I had suggested at one point that we throw in this "Haunted Halloween" cassette I had just bought to have as background spookiness during the long drive and of course get us into the fun spirit. Side A repeats on side B so we let it go for long periods as it just replayed over and over - it isn't that long in length. At one point we were way up on some backroads after passing through Sacramento and Steve was driving like 80 mph through thick Tule fog (tooley). The fog was soo thick that we could barely see a foot in front of the car in every direction! It's like when Scooby Doo cut a donut out of the fog and ate it! The only thing visible was the two RED tail lights of a car charging fast up ahead of us, piercing through the fog like demon eyes! That's how Steve sort of navigated - the crazy mother! He may have even been going faster in the Tule fog at times. We somehow made it, and of course Chico is infamous for Halloween and that was the first of many for me there.
Steve and I still joke to this day about being lost passing through Sacramento for a bit and then in the thick fog for a long time as we were simultaneously listening and quoting parts of the demonic voice in "Haunted Halloween": "If - you - enter, this - house - you may never - come out - alivvveee..." followed by demonic laughter. We would substitute "town" & some other words in place of "house" in demonic voices and crack up.

J. Geils Band "You're Gettin' Even While I'm Gettin' Odd" last album 1984!

Hi all I know I said I'd be around more, but this time I mean it! I've been slammed with work and that will level out a bit, but the main point is that I am digitizing some rare material to share & post for you right now!
To kick it off I have a special album for you: J. Geils Band's last album from 1984 "You're Gettin' Even While I'm Gettin' Odd"! This album has never been released on CD except for a RARE, ultra-expensive Japanese version, so I digitized it from a brand new audio cassette.

I love the J. Geils Band, they were in some ways kinda considered the American version of the Rolling Stones, yet still way different. They have many albums from the '70s which I still need to get. Yet, they hit their global success in 1980 which was my generation as a little kid! Of course you all know the classics: "Love Stinks", "Freeze Frame", "Centerfold", etc. I think the J. Geils Band really found the perfect mix of power, pop. hip, riffs, humor, hooks, synthesizer, effects, and overall ripping & fun rock n' roll with the 1980 album "Love Stinks". Of course it just got even better with the next 1981 album "Freeze Frame", when keyboard/synthesizer wizard Seth Justman supplied the hits & nearly all of the material at that point. Each member of the band is a classic character & they all shred hard and contribute their own special flair. They still always have that unique blend of an OLDIES sound in the tunes no matter how the style is - what band gives you that?!

Unfortunately in 1983, the band's beloved frontman Peter Wolf left the group over artistic disagreements. Even though Peter Wolf rules and it sucks that he left, the genius of Seth Justman (way ahead of his time) kept the band alive for their final 1984 release "You're Gettin' Even While I'm Gettin' Odd". Seth took over the lead vocals, and he and the rest of the band had always produced really awesome background vocals & melodies on every album anyway. I knew that Justman must have filled in admirably because he is the lead singer on their epic 1985 soundtrack theme from one of my top favorite movies of all time "FRIGHT NIGHT"!

So also, I had read some reviews that said their last album would have been a smash hit if Peter Wolf was still the frontman, and they were right! It builds on the sound that Justman had delved into on "Freeze Frame" - more elaborate synths, time signatures, creativity, and overall heightened sound & production. They broke up in 1985, and I guess that being without your main frontman can take some great bands down even if they still rule and have all of the other original members (they have reunited for some shows in the last few years so that's cool!). But "You're Gettin' Even While I'm Gettin' Odd" was a kickass swan song and is just as good as anything else! Try to figure out what the first track "Concealed Weapons" is about, heh heh. Also, check the song title "Californicatin' ", sound familiar? I just digitzed this album this weekend so I'm excited to share it with all of you being it's still so new to me! Mr. Spock's Music From Outer Space from 1967!

Hi folks! I am sorry for not being around more - I've been slammed with work & the move of our business to a new location! I promise to post at least once every week & 1/2 or so. I hope you all have enjoyed my last post of the phenomenal 1990 punk album by Rat Pack - I know Evan did!
Well here we go, it's Mr. Spock's Music From Outer Space from 1967!
This is just an all around awesome album from the fun & interesting Leonard Nimoy. Excellent narrative, singing, and the music is fantastic! Of course I love & grew up with the ORIGINAL STAR TREK (new generation was lame except for Picard). Just like the show, you get really cool wisdom & creativity from Nimoy & Mr. Spock all rolled into one! We also get a version of the theme song from the awesome "Mission Impossible" TV show that Nimoy co-starred on as well.
Here's a review:"The original sixties classic, "Mr. Spock's Music from Outer Space" is perhaps the most sought after Nimoy album. Like a piece of fine blue cheese, thirty years have added another dimension to this remarkable debut.
Under the strict creative control of Paramount, the album includes marvellously camp big-beat versions of the "Theme from Star Trek", "Beyond Antares" and of course the "Theme to Mission Impossible", all without any visible input from Mr. Nimoy. Tasteful covers such as "Music to Watch Space Girls By" add substance to the instrumental section of the album.
In lieu of a theremin or similar electronic instrument, the Star Trek instrumentals feature a screaming reverb-laden combo organ with all vibrato switches "set to stun". Musical accompaniment is provided by a Ventures style surf group with a liberal supply of thetamine .

If "Two Sides of Leonard Nimoy" is the White Album of Star Trek recordings, this is Sargeant Pepper. Stand-out tracks include "Twinkle Twinkle Little Earth" (Spock addressing a conference of "little green men"), "Alien" (a poignant cry against prejudice on behalf of Vulcan visitors to Earth) and "Visit to a Sad Planet" (where Spock visits the Earth after a nuclear holocaust in seeming ignorance of earlier Star Trek time-travel plots).
The album also features "Where Is Love?" from "Oliver", & a cover of Weill's "Lost in the Stars". (Fans of Kurt Weill broadway recordings of the 50's and 60's will appreciate what exceptionally tough competition Nimoy faces for this honor).
Worth the extortionate collectors' prices as one of the greatest party records of all time."

RAT PACK self titled, full-length punk rock L.P. from 1990

A very special treat for you is a very rare gem of a stellar punk rock album. This is the self titled 1990 L.P. from one of the best Southern California NARDCORE punk bands: RAT PACK from Santa Barbara. They were one of the best Mystic Records Label bands, and they had a few singles & a couple of 7" e.p.s starting in 1984. All of their material rules, which I have, yet this self titled full-length release from 1990 is the one you gotta hear. Even folks that are
afraid of the moniker "punk rock" must remember, that's just the "genre" that certain rock n' roll bands or albums fall under. Most great punk bands sound completely different from each other with their own unique sounds, styles, and most importantly, song writing. Black Flag, Dr. Know, Agression, Dead Kennedys, R.K.L., Bad Brains, Minor Threat, Mistfits, Ramones, Iggy Pop, Subhumans, Flower Leperds, Adolescents, etc. sound nothing like each other. They can't just be labeled "punk" bands, because they all have their own styles & sounds.

"In 1984, RAT PACK singer/founder Matt Ratt was covering the vocal duties for R.K.L., while singer Jason Sears was away on "medical leave". During this time R.K.L. was signed on to record for the now infamous "NARDCORE" album on Mystic Records. Just prior to recording, Jason returned from his leave of absense. So left with the dilema of an album to record, and suddenly no band, Matt was told to throw something together quickly and record for the album anyway. So after a few rehearsals with Chris Rest and Alpo D.(borrowed from R.K.L.) Dave Casillas from STALAG 13 and Mike Torres from NARTHEX STRUCTURE, RAT PACK was born! Although originaly only meant to be a recording project for the NARDCORE album, RAT PACK ended up doing three records for Mystic, 1985's self titled 7", 1987's "Ice Cream Acid and Cigarettes" 7" and 1990's self titled full length Lp. Through the years RAT PACK has gone through long periods of hibernation, with many line up changes...people that have played in and recorded with RAT PACK include current and former members of bands such as NOFX, SOCIAL DISTORTION, STALAG 13, THE ADOLESCENTS, D.I., SUGAR CULT, HOLLYWOOD HATE, FOO FIGHTERS, LAG WAGON, R.K.L., NO USE FOR A NAME, and ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMME'S."

Congratulations to my NEW YORK GIANTS Superbowl XLII 2007 Champions!

Congratulations to my NEW YORK GIANTS Superbowl XLII 2007 Champions! I am finally writing this follow-up blog post after the Supebowl. What an amazing cinderella finish, it just kept getting more amazing as the latter weeks passed. Most folks are saying that the Eli to Tyree play was the best in Superbowl history, and I must agree as far as what I have watched! Eli drove me and everyone crazy all year long as usual, until the kid stepped up big time right before the playoffs and never looked back! What a special player he turned into huh, it does take time. I think this confidence will make Eli an elite NFL quarterback from now on.

I still can hardly believe that out of 32 NFL teams, my team won Superbowl XLII!

I am very happy for Eli, Strahan & the whole D, running backs, Toomer & the receivers, all of the stellar rookies, Tom Coughlin & all the coaches, and just the whole team! No one can ever take it away from them... BRAVO!

My NEW YORK GIANTS are in SUPERBOWL XLII!...

No one thought it would happen, even myself, but the N.Y. Giants are going to face the N.E. Patriots in SUPERBOWL XLII! Brett Favre is my favorite all-time QB and it's too bad the story ended but hey. Also, I have loved everything that the Patriots have done this year. Randy Moss is the man on & off the field & I'm not a Brady hater like everyone else, I'm glad he broke the NFL single-season record with 50 tds. Like all of the coaches and commentators say, if you don't like the Patriots staying in to score tds, do something about it. End of conversation.
I had a good feeling about the Giants draft picks this season, and they sure paid off! Ahmad Bradshaw, Aaron Ross, Kevin Boss, Steve Smith, etc. I feel that Bradshaw is a huge reason why they're going to the Superbowl.

Most people have been against & doubted the Giants all season, and now that they knocked off the only team in the NFL that I hate - the Cowboys, and beat the Packers, everyone has to shut their traps. The Giants broke the single season record of 10 straight road wins - that's incredible! Eli has been frustrating for me to deal with, but he's done well and now he's in the big show.

Osi, Strahan, Jacobs, Plaxico, Toomer, all the DBs, etc. have been stellar!

Props to Eli, Peyton's sittin' on the couch! Congratulations N.Y. Giants, time to dance with destiny and beat the Patriots!

"MEATBALLS" 1979 Soundtrack from 8-track cassette - Happy New Year!

Hi everyone, welcome to "Nightchillers Rare Music" in this new year of 2008! I apologize for not posting since right before Halloween of 2007, but I'll make it up to you. My Dad has finally finished putting together my new, gnarly monster of a computer system for my apartment and now I can give you new music posts more frequently at my home instead of after hours at work. Also, I was ill the whole first half of 2007 when I started this blog.

I thought I'd start this first 2008 post wth a bang! Here is the original soundtrack from one of my top 5 favorite movies: "MEATBALLS" from 1979! Containing some sound bites, it was recorded exclusively from 8-track cassette! I recorded this in I believe 2005. Now it is finally shared with everyone else in this sparkling, stellar form! I just love "MEATBALLS" as it represents everything from my early childhood that was still great about America. If you haven't seen the movie in a while or are younger and haven't seen it, it rules! It's hilarious & also very touching in my opinion. Bill Murray, all the other goofball camp counselors & kids have a whacky summer blast! Just like it was back then!

I was soo lucky to have been born in the early 1970s, as I believe on up through the 1980s we still had those old American family values & fun! Also, I was soo lucky to have gone 1 time to summer camp with my best friend Eric! Every kid in this country should go to summer camp at least once.

The score of course is by the maestro composer Elmer Bernstein ("An American Werewolf In London", Heavy Metal", etc.) so you know it's special! And the other songs just rule by a classic bunch of artists like: David Naughton (Dr. Pepper commercial song & star of "An American Werewolf In London", etc.), Terry Black, Mary MacGregor, and Rick Dees! Howdy folks! This will be my last music post before Halloween as I am flying to the East coast tomorrow morning to Boston & the surrounding area until November 5th. As with back in 2001, I will be spending Halloween in Salem, Mass.!

Here we have a very fun old favorite of mine: "Uneasy Listening" from Eerie Von & Mike Morance from 1996. Eerie Von is the chap who grew up in Lodi, NJ and graduated from Lodi High School in 1982 with Steve Zing ("Samhain" drummer) and Doyle of "The Misfits" and then joined his good friend Glenn Danzig as his bass player in "Samhain" - an AWESOME band! He then moved forward with their next AWESOME band "Danzig".

"Uneasy Listening" is Eerie's 1st solo album, and he made it with a guy named Mike Morance. I actually have Eerie's 2nd solo album "The Blood & The Body" but I have soo much music I have not listened to it. Anyway, "Uneasy Listening" rules and it is made with the sort of intention of a Halloween spook-out scary sounds & sound fx album. Here are two cosmic connections between me & Buckethead... Dude!!! Not to sound lame but a guy I know that did some work on Buckethead's home a few years ago said I look a lot like him... with the exception that I'm 5'8. That was when I had just barely gotten into Buckethead. Not only is Buckethead my favorite musician, but I just found out today that he has the same birthday as my older brother Mark who just turned 40 (Buckethead is younger) on October 7th!!! What an awesome trip! I can't wait to see Buckethead live! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HALLOWEEN & OCTOBER FUN BUCKETHEAD!!!

Hi folks! Jason here saying sorry I haven't posted since July, but I had to take a break for awhile and now I will be sure to update frequently again - especially here in October. For your forgiveness, here is a tasty little Halloween treat for everyone: J. Peter Robinson's RARE 1987 film score from "The Gate"! I bring this to you EXCLUSIVELY, 20 years later in 2007! This is the first time it is being shared anywhere on the net, as it has never been released.

This is another horror film that as we all know is a true gem from the '80's, and I feel it is a masterpiece in every way. My friends and I were about the same age as these kids when it came out and it aired on HBO and regular TV all the time for years. It just plain RULES and was always a favorite of ours kickin' around the Daillak or Hoff family households! HAPPY FRIDAY THE 13TH everyone! On this glorious day I bring you this RARE & special treat of "The Bridge" 1991 soundtrack by Skipp & Spector for their smash hit novel from the same year! I read the novel before and during my plane trip back to Boston from California right after 9-11. I even went up to Salem, Mass. for Halloween... it ruled! I have since read nearly all of Skipp & Spector's novels and I urge everyone to read them as they are some of the best horror fiction novels ever written! "The Bridge" is about the earth mutating from a bio-toxic waste born, unhuman consciousness that rises up abruptly like a bolt of hot lightning! Death, doom, mutation, destruction and new chaotic order all ensue as the Earth reconstitutes itself with wreckless abandon... the apocalyptic end! Or... the ferocious beginning of the new Earth and Mother Nature's whacked out habitat... poor, dumb humans!

When I was in Junior High School, I remember seeing this novel or the soundtrack in a magazine add like Fangoria or something and how freaky the artwork seemed. John Skipp & Craig Spector are also musicians and they each sing and play guitars & keyboards among other things along with Brian Emrich on bass, programming, etc., to create an astounding and kick-ass soundtrack to their novel with the slogan "The Soundtrack To The Movie In Your Mind". That's right folks, take a look at the CD front cover and notice I found this rare gem in mint condition in L.A. for $1.00! I suggest you read the novel first so that you can get a visual image of the scenes in it as you listen to this soundtrack and it will make more sense.

There were times a few years ago when I was in L.A. at certain places and I would kick-it and talk with John Skipp. He's a cool guy, and I've always felt we were on the same wavelength when speaking. We talked about "The Bridge" as what it would be like theatrically and he made the sound point that it would only be done justice made as an animated film. There is soo much mayhem in the film that I agree 100%. John actually invited me to come over and jam and check out some of his new music software & equipment as we both were buying similar stuff at the same time. I never got around to going over there as I fell into a fucked up relationship (still recovering) at the time and eventually bailed out of L.A. I'll contact him again sometime soon to say "hello".

"Electric Horrorland": Michael Knight's new 2007 instrumental album based on the most famous horror games of all time!

I've been a fan of Michael Knight since I bought his first 2 instrumental albums back in 2003 - put out by his own record label. Michael has been an award-winning guitarist in the NY area. An all-around artist, he's also put out the independent & FREE, heavy music magazine Guitar-2001, highlighting instrumental music with interviews of your favorite artists. He's also released 2 various artist instrumental CD compilations. He's done some indie horror film scores as well. A couple of years ago I wrote him to purchase a mag and he sent me a free magazine, a free compilation CD and some of his own promo materials - a really cool guy! In 2004 his vocal fronted band Skulgrinder released "Island Of Lost Souls". He just released his first book of short horror fiction entitled "The Clocktower Black". Now he has just unleashed his new 2007 masterpiece, the heavy instrumental horror album "Electric Horrorland", based on the greatest horror games of the last 15 years.

Michael's killer 1994 debut "Dreamscapes" takes you into individual "nightmares and dreamscapes" with heavy, melodic grooves and ripping guitars. I blasted this in my truck a lot while picturing the awesome themes in my mind. I could imagine the thunderous lighting storm while listening to “Electric Skies” for example. With 2002's "Mechanica Diablo", Knight unveils a refined craft and superior production values at his friend & guest guitarist Steve Booke's studio. He also has some other friends contribute. It's a flowing concept album based on "Dante's Inferno" - the doomed downfall of the human race in the 21st century due to sexual disease, turned to biotech, sexual machine madness & darkness. This ripping & ultra creative masterwork has been a huge hit, with significant non-mainstream radio play and has gotten fabulous reviews. When I first heard "Mechanica Diablo" MP3 previews on the internet, I'd loop them throughout the work day. It was a big inspiration and made me realize an unconventional, imaginative sound you could achieve with dark, instrumental horror music.

Now with "Electric Horrorland", take the production values and sound of "Mechanica Diablo", pump it with steroids, then kick it into overdrive for a high-octane, no-holds-barred, go-for-the-jugular horror gaming shredfest! "Electric Horrorland" is refined in a more straightforward way, with tightened up monster muscles and superb production. The bass and drums are always tight, thick & powerful, at perfect levels with the other instruments. It features a few of his signature, sublimly eeire & atmospheric creep-out tracks in the style of his last album, and the rest of the songs are a HEAVY, charging assault. The chugging rhythms never let up. He always has great melody and his out-of-the-box solos appear in frenzied flurries. The always cool guitar parts scurry or jump out like hidden creatures from dark holes. Another of his signatures, the compositions are highlighted by fresh, creepy sounds & effects, used in just the right amounts in all the right places. It's a concept album, yet each track on "Electric Horrorland" stands on its’ own, with no connected story - as the songs refer to INDIVIDUAL horror games. The unparalleled online PC game "Quake" is my favorite all-time game - so I was STOKED to see that he had a song on his new album by the same name! Of course other horror game track titles I recognized, and I knew all of the tracks would be terrific. There's never a dull moment and I can picture the games I'm familiar with in my head perfectly.

Yeah, people can make metal and other music sound scary, but to convey a certain theme in an audio-to-visual translation as a song is VERY HARD to do and somehow Michael knows how to pull it off. These songs could very well be put right into the games themselves. The sound of this newest material is as he stated he'd deliver: "leaner & meaner". I believe Michael Knight has found his "voice" - THE holy grail sound he's been seeking - and it's his MAGNUM OPUS. I just got the CD a few days ago from Guitar9.com, and I can't seem to stop replaying it after each listen on my Ipod. It almost makes me worried that I'll be bored with any new instrumental releases coming out from other artists!

We know that the great Buckethead gives us crazy mixtures of horror in various themes and musical styles. Nothing sounds quite like Michael Knight running the gamut of horror subjects across the board. Even with all of the non-horror guitar virtuoso albums I own (and I own a ton!), nothing out there really compares to his innovative showcasing of stripped down heaviness. Also, and this is crucial: HE DOES NOT MAKE ANY OF HIS NEW MUSIC IN THAT "NU-METAL" SOUND, yet it has sharp & technical searing. He's got an old school sound bulked up for the new millenium. This is very important for instrumental guitar music in this day 'n age. He wrote in an email that with "Electric Horrorland" he took care & time in going back 'n forth to the mastering studio, and it really shows. He obviously does all of this horror justice not for recognition, but for the pure love of it all. It's rare to have a talented, independent horror musician AND fiction writing ambassador like Michael Knight. Hard work pays off. He's not into trends and has all the originality with no B.S.! - fulfilling the unspoken needs of the masses.

"Big Trouble In Little China" score from 1986

Here is another superb score by John Carpenter from one of his best films: "Big Trouble In Little China". This score is with his multi-album collaborator Alan Howarth. I saw this movie at the theatre with my parents in 1986. I had already loved John Carpenter's movies as a young child at that point and when I saw this film, it kind of threw me. I didn't understand the comedy in it, as it very much is in an almost slapstick way. Yet as I got older, I realized the masterpiece of comedy, eerieness, mysteriousness and of course great action all wrapped up in one. All of the supernatural & creature elements make it fill out perfectly. This movie is so much fun that I could watch it over and over again. Jack Burton is an awesome character - he kicks ass and likes to goof around, and he makes his own path. This stellar score rules along with the Coupe De Villes (John & his buddies) tracks. There are some bonus tracks from Alan Howarth & 1 from "Escape From New York". Enjoy!

"The Dunwich Horror" 1970 rare score from Les Baxter

Oh yes folks, this is a real gem I got here for ya. Les Baxter's phenomenal and highly imaginatively suited 1970 score to the film "The Dunwich Horror". This is one of my favorite old horror films as taking on an H.P. Lovecraft story doesn't get much better than this, especially for 1970. The film very ambitiously pulls off some effective, stellar stuff. The atmosphere, the alien eerieness of Dunwich, the relentless obsessions of the Necronomicon - all the yin to the very lovely yang of Sandra Dee. This superb score rounds it out and makes it all tight of course. Check out the film if you haven't seen it before/in a while. Angi Schiliro's "White Lady" from 1992

After posting two metal albums, here is my next non-film score review of Angi Schiliro's "White Lady" - referring to his ivory Stratocaster lady. At every speed & degree of softness & power, all of these finely crafted songs are pure beauty. Known as a member of Stormbringer, Paganini, Zero and Kingdom Come, Italian guitarist Angi Schiliro has also written songs for China and his music appears in such film soundtracks as "Mona Lisa" and "The Fourth Protocol". "White Lady" is the guitarist's 1992 solo CD, featuring 9 instrumental tracks with a mix of rock, metal & neo-classical pieces. Slow ballad to faster segments, the album could be a film score. As Schiliro writes in the liner notes, "This album is pure, timeless music, created with the hope that there are enough people out there who still know the meaning of the word. In every song, I've tried to capture the atmosphere, mood and feelings of situations and of my soul, never concerning myself with the speed of the guitar solo. I have tried to let my guitar sing, scream, talk, cry, tell, run, fly and gently weep - like humans do. In keeping with the special language and expression of the guitar, you can't help but fall in love with its beauty."

And in the hands of a master like this you truly get timeless guitar beauty of the highest degree.

"Dreamscape": The 1984 film score

Ahhhh, "Dreamscape". If you saw this film as an American boy in 1984 and didn't love it, you weren't an American boy in 1984. This movie just all around rules and is very impressive still to this day. Here I give you the wonderful, dreamy, electronic OOP film score by Maurice Jarre. The composition of each musical piece (sometimes playing on the main theme) is really the work of genius. You've got great melodies & the AWESOME main theme, weird changes & instrumentation, and an overall controlled lunacy which is highly adventurous, subtle, exquisite, horrific, pleasant, beautiful and fun all wrapped up neatly. Ahhhnnnolllddd is: "The Running Man" in 1987

Let's face it. If your an American guy my age, Ahnold rules. He always did. "The Running Man" is of course one of the Ahnold ass-kickin' classics. Aside from politics, which is a tough area to deal with and takes a lot of deep layer peeling for us citizens to really know what the fine print says, he still rules. Political parties are bullshit - unfortunately we have to appoint officials that fall within these stupid little categories that make people feel snug & cozy about (just like American pop-culture). There may be things instilled or backed by "The Governator" that look good or look bad on the surface. Yet, if you really want to talk smack about politics, then you gotta know what the hell you're talking about. I know a lot more from over the last couple of years and the most important thing I've learned is this: You can't always just listen to what people say, you have to investigate the policies and propostions yourself. It doesn't matter if you're for any particular party (except for appointing a certain position to tip the balance in an area where a party may be failing), you just have to know that many good reform decisions have a downside to them. Some are frankly just the right thing to do and have no downside. Some politicians are hollow and demonic, some are stupid, some are both, some want to do the right thing and are patriotic, some are stupid, some are both. Also, religion CAN NOT influence political decisions. For example, if you speak to a school teacher about education reform, you must know about where they live, what are the circumstances, what grade level they teach, if they get reform in one way does it hurt something else, is this person religious?, etc. I have friends & family that are school teachers in California, but I have yet to ask them some particulars on Schwarzenegger's conduct. I'd like to think that our "Governator" wants to do the right things. Some say he is evil now, some say he is good and cares. At least for kicking cinema-ass and "pumping you up", Ahnold is the man.

And who could blame 'em, aren't these little critters just so cute & cuddly you could just squeeze 'em? Maybe not as cute as a 25 foot Great White shark or an adorable 40 foot Megalodon, but hey... it's not a contest!

"Dr. Mastermind": another metal classic with "Deen Castronovo" on drums from 1986

Hi everyone. Here's the second metal album that I'm sharing in promise of them appearing occasionally. I bring you: "Dr. Mastermind" from 1986 (the 1st metal release on the unearthly virtuoso music label "Shrapnel Records"!). This is the infamous former singer of "The Wild Dogs","Matt McCourt", as he left to do this album - while "The Wild Dogs" got a new bassist & singer and made their 3rd album "Reign Of Terror" (the 1st metal album I shared with you). Yet, the genius prodigy drummer "Deen Castronovo" plays on "Reign Of Terror" & "Dr. Mastermind" (a trio). McCourt is your doctor, and he does all of the singing & rips on the bass. The astounding guitarist is the infamous "Kurt James" - searing, tapping & shredding. Kurt later dropped out of the scene to go to Spain and study the bass in the path of deceased virtuoso "Jaco Pastorius". He has recently returned to the states and recorded new shred guitar material with McCourt.

"Dr. Mastermind" will blow your doors and you guys will have fun with this one. I do multimedia production for a living and I added the 1st song "Domination" to a 19 year-old college fullback's highlight scouting tape along with some other music and he loved it! The doctor will see you now...heh...heh...heh...

"From Dusk Till Dawn" & "Dead Calm" RARE & UNRELEASED SCORES!

Howdy Folks! Here is a another fun & special exclusive treat for you: The "From Dusk Till Dawn" & "Dead Calm" RARE & UNRELEASED SCORES by Graeme Revell! I know these tracks may be out there somewhere, but if this is the 1st time you have come across (especially "FDTD") these fine scores then it makes me happy that I can give them to you! You know, I just love the film "From Dusk Till Dawn". It is so much fun without one single boring moment. I didn't quite appreciate how great it was back in 1996 when I saw it in the theatre. It has become one of my all time favorites now. It sure is nice to have this awesome score now as well as the cool soundtrack, eh? "Dead Calm" was a pretty disturbing flick back when it came out with the twisted Billy Zane. That may be more of a nightmare than FDTD! It's funny, I just watched "Critters" a few weeks ago for the 1st time since I was a kid and realized the teenage boyfriend in it was Billy Zane. I was so young at the time that I remember thinking his character was a cool older guy and I wanted to be like him - classic!
In "From Dusk Till Dawn" I can relate to The "Gecko Bros", having grown up with one older brother myself. Also, over the last few years I've learned a great deal about folks with mental illnesses, old wounds, pharmaceuticals, and just how crazy EVERY human mind is and its' struggle with the lonliness of a person in their sole, flesh containment. I've met siblings of some folks with strong similarities with "Richie Gecko" (not the homicide of course) and can see how his bro Seth tried all he could to give him some sort of peace in life, while battling to keep his own head straight. I also like Seth's mannerisms & sensibilites (much how George Clooney seems like) and of course the film is a classic! Right after I wrote this I'm now adding I just found out that George's birthday is May 6th - mine is May 3rd so no wonder I feel similar personality traits.

Anyway, although FDTD had 2 sequels, the 1st one stands on it's own to me. I like that we don't know what became of "Seth Gecko" livin' as a free & hopefully not-to emotionally haunted man.

Yes... we can't forget about the day after Friday The 13th - our good friend Saturday The 14th. So I thought I'd also mention this classic horror comedy from 1981. This film is whacky and weird and it actually was very scary in parts to me as a boy. I haven't seen it in years but I know that those parts are still freaky and who can forget the part with the daughter in the bathtub with a rag on her face while a gillman type creature rises up from between her legs through the suds? Lots of off-the-wall weirdness in this flick - check it out. So there you go just thought I'd give a little holler out before the witching hour. Beware of the MOON...

Hi everyone! Happy FRIDAY THE 13TH to all! To celebrate this glorius day, Nightchillers Rare Music brings you the RARE score of 1988's DEAD HEAT by Ernest Troost (Tremors). This is an EXCLUSIVE! These tracks originate from a digital transfer from the ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES! I just got my hands on a semi-bootleg CD of this just a few months ago. I'm presenting this to you for FREE and as a bonus I added as the last track my recording of the groovin' rock song "Dead Heat" by Phil Settle which plays over the end credits. I love this song! The lyrics are about the film, and the singing and musicianship rocks and are really a whole lotta fun - especially if you love this movie as much as I do. I wanted to keep all of the song's intro so it begins with the dialogue of partners Roger Mortis (Treat Williams) & Doug Bigelow (Joe Piscopo - he's comic genius in this movie) having their last conversation of the movie over the music - this is also a lot of fun! You have to see DEAD HEAT if you haven't already - it's an 80's "buddy-cop-black comedy-zombie-shoot 'em up-horror-sci-fi-action-fest" little cult masterpiece of a film. I don't want to spoil the plot or any scenes for those who have not seen it so I'll just give you this info: it was written by Terry Black (brother of Lethal Weapon writer Shane Black!), the cast also has: Darren McGavin (Kolchak: The Night Stalker, A Christmas Story), Vincent Price (one of his last roles), and Robert Picardo (The Howling, Legend, 976-Evil, Matinee, Masters of Horror, etc.), This was renowned film editor Mark Goldblatt's 1988 DIRECTORIAL DEBUT and was nominated for the Fantasporto International Fantasy Film Best Film Award in 1990!

There you go folks. I'll say it again: SEE THIS MOVIE! Then have fun and listen to the music afterwards. If you see it and don't like it you probably don't understand the mix of comedy, drama, sci-fi, action & horror that it masterfully achieves - although I don't know how you wouldn't. I can also personally identify with the characters of Roger & Doug (although I'm not a cop) as two good bros in their 30's just trying to be good guys and do the right things in their lonesome bachelor lives to get by. There are a few touching moments in this movie as well if you PAY ATTENTION you Attention Deficit Disorder motherf**kers and stop answering your cell phone and getting up to go to the kitchen every 5 minutes, rustling noisy wrappers to stuff your face with yet more food.This is one of my TOP favorite movies! "Wild Dogs" - "Reign Of Terror": A 1987 metal masterpiece

Here's my first rare & obscure metal masterpiece album post - everyone download this, even if you don't listen to metal. It's especially for my friend "The Phelpster" from "The Manchester Morgue" who has posted some metal classics in between the film music on his blog.

This is the 3rd album release from the "Wild Dogs" from 1987: "Reign Of Terror" (7 additional demos recorded for the followup album never transpired - I didn't include them because their quality's pretty bad) which introduced a new lead singer & bassist. The 1st two "Wild Dogs" albums are great as well but this is the best one. All of the songs were written by the phenomenal guitarist "Jeff Mark" & the famous pioneer drumming virtuoso "Deen Castronovo". Jeff rules & Deen has been one of the most sought after journeyman drum wizards of all time as he has played on numerous metal & neo-classical metal albums, as well as non-metal releases for a wide range of artists including, Tony MacAlpine, Steve Vai, Marty Friedman, Cacophony, Social Distortion, Ozzy Osbourne, etc. He is now the drummer for Journey. Deen also plays on the former "Wild Dogs" singer "Matt McCourt's" project from 1986 called "Dr. Mastermind" - this is also an absolute metal masterpiece classic from "Shrapnel Records" that I will post on this blog soon as well.

"What Hendrix, Van Halen and Ywngwie were to modern guitar Deen is to drums. His over the top bombastic bass drum flurries soon made Deen the 16 YR OLD wonder kid of his band at the time. "The Enemy" went out as the opening act in front of Blue Oyster Cult and Foghat. Upon seeing an ad on TV for The Enemy, Kip Doran (Evil Genius), Matt McCourt and Ja Reynolds (Malice ) went to see Deen at a local nightclub. "He was playin' double bass in parts of "Shoot, Shoot" the UFO song, that actually made me like that song", remembers McCourt. "I was really into drummers especially Billy Cobham and Neil Peart and here is this (then) overweight kid takin' up the whole stage playing and singing, the others in the band had to stand on the dance floor because his kit was so big."

Here is another quote from Matt McCourt about the "Wild Dogs" and this 3rd release: "The Wild Dogs emerged in the nwobhm at the same time Metallica, Slayer, Metal Church, Iron Maiden, and Saxon came onto the scene. Signed to Shrapnel Records, they possesed drummer Deen Castronovo who has recorded with Ozzy Osbourne and Journey, and guiatrist Jeff Mark who styles himself after Eddie Van Halen and Uli John Roth of the Scorpions. He is a truly unique and innovative guitarist who if comparison HAS to be made I would say along the lines of Alex Lifeson in theory and originality and Uli Jon Roth for the speedy riffs. This was Mike Varney of Shrapnel Record's first real discovery long before the neo-classical invasion. This album was composed by Deen Castronovo and Jeff utilizing the world class drumming that prior releases did not contain. A drummers handbook of riffs and the notuion that drummers too can write songs! In an effort to be different this album definitely is not puppy mill speed metal and fits in with Racer X , or the other vocal based groups of this genre. You'll notice a few similarities on the production of "Dr. Mastermind", also released at this time. 16 months later Deen was picked up by Tony MacAlpine and shortly thereafter began his long career with Neal Schon, and became a member of the supergroup Journey. "Reign Of Terror" contains a highly modern prog rock approach to American metal. The album has been deemed a classic must own for budding drummers and guitarsits as a riffateria often inspiring talent."

• "The Howling II" (also done by The London Theatre Orchestra) - you know where Sybil Danning is ripping her shirt off, torpedoing out her mammories, repeatedly edited over & over in the film's end credits for young 80's boys like myself

• "The Hardy Boys-Nancy Drew Mysteries" TV series (1977-1979) theme (Stewart Phillips) - I loved this show as a kid and the opening & this theme always entralled me at the start of each new episode (this theme reminds me symphonically of the "Salem's Lot" theme)

• "Too Bad You're Crazy" (Charles Bernstein) from the end credits of one of my favorite 80's horror films "April Fool's Day". I got this from another music share blog and can't remember which one right now

• "The Sacrifice" (Jonathan Elias *composer of the "Vamp" score) - I recorded this nice "Miami Viceish" tune from the beginning of a "Tales From The Crypt" episode called "The Sacrifice" so that's what I named the song

This post also should have been on April Fool's Day, because when I rented "Pumpkinhead III: Ashes To Ashes" that day, I was fooled big time! This steaming pile of excrement was actually covered in a multi-page spread in Fangoria - yaarrgghh! ... Bottom line: It's utter garbage with no redeeming value whatsoever. I realized it was terrible right from the get-go and then started to scan through it and then just shut 'er down and took it out of the player. I should have learned my lesson way back with "Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings" and just hung up the cleats with the Stan Winston first and ONLY masterpiece: "Pumpkinhead". Have I said enough? It's titled "Pumpkinhead III: Ashes To Ashes" - so burn to ashes all existing copies of this "film".

VAMP film score from 1986

Hi everbody! I have been busy and under the weather so I finally have another treat for you. This is one of my favorite film scores to one of my old childhood favorites. I first saw Vamp in 1986 when I was staying with my older cousin in Southern California and she took me to the video store. It was also one of the many VHS rental favorites of my best friend Eric and I. We always got our hands on Rated R VHS rentals and of course HBO always had violence and nudity on at night. Of course we mainly rented horror, action or comedies: Vamp, the Porkys flix, Stripes, Caddyshack, Red Dawn, Losin' It, Fright Night, Fletch, Risky Business, Sixteen Candles, etc. - you get the picture. Lots of these films were ALWAYS on HBO anyway.

Vamp was always a fun one for us and how can you go wrong with best friends Keith & A.J. (Chris Makepeace & Robert Rusler), their wealthy tag-along frat-mate wannabe Duncan (Gedde Watanabe), creepy albino gang leader Snow (Billy Drago) and all the other 80's fun & mayhem under the dark veil of Grace Jones and the vampire coven.

I digitized this Vamp 1986 film score from the vinyl LP back in around 2001. I also added-in an extra bonus track from a Vampire CD collection at the end. I have since realized that Jonathan Elias is an awesome composer and I love to chill to whatever music he creates. Vamp is for kickin' back in any situation, or for visiting that fun place of an 80's adolescent and imagining being a care-free, older college guy with his best friend, and then plummeting into that creepy labyrinth of shadows, mean albinos & thirsty vampires. Hi all! I hope some of you have visited and downloaded my 1st share file of the "Modern Problems" theme song. I have a bad flu and I'm sick as a dog (what does that mean anyway?) as I post this. Now, here is a very special treat for you. This is the out-of-print score to the epic 1971 film "The Omega Man" starring the immortal Charlton Heston. This cd release was very limited at 3,000 pressed and I got it right after it came out in the early 2000s. It is very expensive to get your hands on one - now I am passing this wonderful score on to you for free.

One of my favorite and one of the greatest books ever written is "I Am Legend" by Richard Matheson - one of the greatest fiction writers of all time (his son, Richard Christian Matheson is also a great writer). The book was made into the movie "The Last Man On Earth" starring Vincent Price in 1964 (the film that inspired "Night Of The Living Dead"). The character's name of Robert Neville was changed to Dr. Robert Morgan. This is a great film. Then, another great film from the book was made in 1971 - "The Omega Man". The character's name is the same as in the book.

So, we have two of the greatest actors of all time each playing the role of Robert Neville. Now, in 2007, the film "I Am Legend" will come out appallingly starring Will Smith (Arnold Schwarzenegger was originally supposed to play the role in this remake). Let's see: Vincent Price, Charlton Heston, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Will Smith - something at the end of that grouping seems way out of place. Remember how Smith put a skid mark stain on the epic "The Wild Wild West" TV series character of Jim West in that stupid movie from 1999? Let's see: Robert Conrad, Will Smith... ARGHH! (see my post thoughts about "I Am Legend" below)

Anyway, read the book, see the first two films, and enjoy this beautiful score from "The Omega Man" composed by Ron Granier and reminisce at all of Neville's dealings with "The Family" and his solitary struggle as the last man on earth. The link is embedded in a pic above. Enjoy!

"Modern Problems" for Chevy Chase in 1981

Hi everyone! Here is finally Nightchillers Rare Music's first posted share link of some OOP music. This is the theme song for the 1981 film "Modern Problems" starring Chevy Chase. I saw this flick in the theatre with my parents when it came out. My parents always took me and my big brother to many Rated R films (although this film is PG) when I was born in the 70's right outta the gate. I just thought I'd mention that but more on it in later posts. Don't let anyone tell you this movie misses the mark, just rent it, enjoy it and have fun - it's classic! I just watched it for the 1st time in years about a month & 1/2 ago and when I heard the theme song I remembered it and that I had always liked it. I thought it might be just a studio-musician track and then found it to be by The Tubes. I have since bought 3 Tubes cds (anyone remember the cool song & video of "She's A Beauty" from 1983?) and I'm stoked on the band. Anyway, this song "Gonna Get It Next Time" was only released on a rare comp. called "Premium Gold" which is OOP and impossible to find so I ripped it from the DVD. This is one of the songs which displays the tight musicianship of the band and their creative grooves & stellar vocals - The Tubes tear it up! The link is embedded in the left pic above. Enjoy!

I'd like to welcome you all, and let you know that I just created this blog last week, and will try to figure out by which method I will upload RARE and OOP music to share with everyone by this weekend. The Phelpster at "The Manchester Morgue" is a great guy and he has given me some good advice. So be sure to add me to your site list as a place for the goods!

On a side note, The horror movie "Dead Silence" opened today. Just over a week ago I had written this movie off as just another "tense & brutal, mind-game gross-out" flick from the writer, director & producers of the "Saw" films. But, then I watched an online trailer for it and realized that it is a supernatural horror film with a scary, old, dead lady & her wicked puppet children. Not that any of this is really new, but compared to all of the mostly brutal-torture-shock horror films out these days, at least the "Saw" guys are doing something supernatural and possibly scary. So tonight I'll see it and can only hope for some scary fun!

If you want to see an AWESOME & fun '80s throwback MONSTER movie, see 2006's ABOMINABLE directed by composer Lalo Schifrin's son - it's SCARY, a lot of FUN & RULES!
